About NameGender
NameGender is a name-to-gender API. It is built and run by Anıl Pekesen, an independent developer in Ankara, Türkiye, and has been live since August 2026. There is no sales team between you and the person who writes the code: support requests, data questions and bug reports reach the same inbox.

What it does
Send a first name, a full name, an email address or a username and get back a gender, a probability and the number of records behind the answer. The same call can return a ready salutation in ten languages (Mr/Ms, Herr/Frau, Monsieur/Madame and others), split a full name into first and last name, and estimate an age range from a first name for the countries where birth data allows it.
When the evidence is not strong enough, the answer is unknown rather than a guess. Company names and role inboxes such as info@ or sales@ are recognised and left unclassified, so they do not end up with a wrong salutation in your CRM.
Where the data comes from
The core of the dataset is official birth and population registers that publish how many people of each sex were given a name:
- Births: United States (Social Security Administration), England and Wales (ONS), Scotland (NRS), Northern Ireland (NISRA), France (INSEE), Canada, Ireland (CSO), Austria (Statistik Austria) and Norway (SSB).
- Residents: Spain (INE), Poland (PESEL) and Switzerland (BFS).
- Names from other countries and scripts come from published name dictionaries and are marked as unverified in every answer, so you can tell a counted result from a listed one.
How we work
- Accuracy is published, including where we are behind: the benchmark compares NameGender with two other providers on the same labelled names.
- Purchased credits do not expire, and pricing is public for every volume.
- Submitted names are not sold or used to train anything. Logging of request inputs can be switched off per API key.
