Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers about results, data, billing, files and integration.
Results and data
What does NameGender determine?
NameGender estimates the gender statistically associated with a name in available datasets. It does not determine a person’s identity, legal gender, biological sex or self-identification.
Why should I send a country code?
Some names have different usage by region. A two-letter country code lets the engine prefer evidence for that country before using a global result.
What do probability and confidence mean?
For counted sources, probability is the observed share of the dominant label. Confidence describes the evidence level using sample size. A record without an auditable count is marked unverified and cannot show 100%.
How large is the database?
The active snapshot contains 7.965.001 unique name-country records across 198 country codes. Size is not treated as proof of accuracy; benchmark coverage and errors are reported separately.
Where does the data come from?
Sources include public statistical datasets such as SSA, ONS, INSEE, Statistics Canada, INE, CSO and SSB, plus openly licensed and reviewed supplementary records. Counted official sources are kept separate from records without sample sizes.
Can a result be wrong?
Yes. Names can be shared across genders, countries and writing systems. Use country, sample size, confidence and source fields, and keep unknown results as unknown instead of forcing a decision.
API, files and security
Which inputs are supported?
The API supports names, email addresses, usernames and bulk lists. The dashboard also processes CSV and XLSX files.
How are API keys protected?
The full key is displayed once. Only a cryptographic hash, prefix and final characters are stored. Keys can be restricted by IP or origin and revoked from the dashboard.
How long are uploaded files kept?
Source and result files are scheduled for deletion after 30 days. Job totals and credit records can remain after the files are removed.
Is integration support available?
Yes. Send the endpoint, response status and a redacted request example to support. Never email a full API key.
Credits and payment
Do purchased credits expire?
No. Purchased credits remain in the account until used. Daily free credits reset and do not accumulate as a cash balance.
How many free credits are included?
The current free plan provides 100 credits per day. Limits can change for future use and are always shown on the pricing page.
When are purchased credits activated?
Credits are activated after the supported payment network reaches the required confirmation state. The order page updates as the payment is detected and confirmed.
Can I request a refund?
A request can be made within 3 calendar days if none of the purchased credits have been used. Consumed digital credits and network fees are normally not refundable, subject to mandatory legal rights.
